Hi, I'm Denise Jomarron and I'm a special needs planning attorney. Today I'm here to share some tips for families who have special needs family members.
Tip number one, if you're a parent of a disabled child, know that they are treated as an adult at age 18. Therefore, it's important that you plan for their future by seeking that you'd be appointed as your guardian or guardian advocate.
Tip number two. If you're a parent of a disabled child, or have a family member who has special needs, it's important that you plan for their future by setting up a third party special needs trust, this tool will help them preserve their government based benefits.
Tip number three, if you have a special needs individual who receives monies of their own, whether they are an adult or a child, they can go ahead and place their money in a first party special needs trust to supplement their care and at the same time, keep them with their existing government benefits.
I know it's hard to imagine you're not being there to care for your disabled child, which is why it's very important that you set up a plan for their care and their future. Give me a call and I'll be happy to help.
